Implementing UV lights into our shows

Hello everybody,

In this blog, we are going to write about implementing UV lights into our Tron Girls & Tron Man suits. We will tell you about what we were struggling with and how we made it happen.

In our Tron Dance suits we had never had a different technology expect LED. When we were creating a new type of LED costume, we wanted to reach a fresh new look, so we have decided to use fiber optic cable. After creating a beta version, there were some imperfections that needed to be fixed.

The first one was the design – fiber optic layout looked different on draft., but when we saw the whole costume in lights, the effect was not that amazing as we expected. So we redesigned the fiber optic cables and fixed them properly. But we really wanted to add something special to make it look fresh and create a WoW effect. Since my teenage times I loved the UV lights in the night clubs and here came the idea to combinate it. I knew it is possible to put it together in our Led Strip Studio software, where you can even synchronize external UV lights, LED walls, lasers, or 3D projector easily. We have a DMX output in the controller, that is connected with the cable to the UV lights placed in front of the stage.

With our choreographer Monika, we bought many types of UV fabric and tried to fit it together. Our first version looked a little bit messy – we combined too many colors and found out, this colorful mixture is not attractive at all. So we had to reduce it to make it more decent and sexy.

As it is said: ‘less is more’, we used just elegant black with one shade of the UV fabric and the final effect looked great.

For the Tron Man show, it was much simpler due to our experience with Tron Girls costume. We didn´t want to use any bright UV colors as we used for Tron Girls due Tron Man costumes are more decent, so we tried to make it simple: white color that looks more like blue when the UV light is turned on. You can see white gloves and silhouettes of the tie. Our competitors are creating various types of ties but we have decided to make it simple and use the silhouette of it and I think our solution is nicer and more practical.
