Can the event industry survive?

Hello Tron fans,
In this blog, we are going to talk about the surviving probability of Tron Shows in 2020 and beyond. Everybody knows, that pandemic strongly hit hotels, events, aviation, restaurants, simply all businesses, that are connected with meeting people and leisure time, but what does it mean for Tron events? As you probably expect, nothing good.

Our company is running a business in four main segments:

–              Tron Shows = selling hardware & software, renting LED suits, LED shows

–              Lasers controllers = hardware and software,

–              LED controllers & installations (clubs, TV studios, buildings etc),

–              Gaming segment (LED backlight – hardware & software)

Still haven’t tried our Led Strip Studio? It´s FREE, try it HERE!

If we look at it generally, each of our businesses got hit due to the pandemic but especially the Tron segment. This situation is accurate for the whole World, except for New Zealand, Australia due they are having a summertime and China, which fights corona much better compared to the rest of the world.

If the business model is set up for individuals (for example our Reactivo – gaming segment), nothing has changed due you can easily use our product without any restriction.

If you take into consideration the LED controllers, there are still the installations for TV studios, buildings that just make it happen without any change. Tv news is streamed despite any situation, buildings have been already projected, so they are being built anyways, real estate business is still going on regardless of COVID. A bigger problem occurs when your business model is set up for a public gathering, where you need many people to enjoy your product. Our Tron Show is a perfect example of a product, which is being consumed by a big amount of people. We are offering a high-end product which is not cheap to make, due to the technology necessary for creating it is expensive and its maintenance is costly too. Our main clients were corporations that were doing events for employees to celebrate something or launch new products and they really needed to do it in an extraordinary way, so people remember their event. The other major clients were sports events, where we used to make shows for tens of thousands people.

Of course, we had some ideas to make our shows for virtual reality so you can check it with Oculus or HTC Vive, but the problem is, that I just can’t imagine anybody, who would buy this product and there are not many options making our shows online via Zoom or Skype. I know how the show looks on video and it’s nice, but if you check it live it´s 1000 times better. You just don´t have the same feeling from the video, compare the live event. It’s exactly the same situation as concerts. You can play songs in your headphones and the quality is good but you still want to go to a concert or festival, where your favorite singer performs live. What makes the events so special is the atmosphere, good quality speakers that just vibe through your body, and friends that you enjoy this show with. This experience is just irreplaceable with YouTube video.

What does it mean for events?

For sure, this game is not survivable for everyone. Everybody in this world needs to earn money because everything is set up for this system. The time that you wait till everything comes back to the old normal system is limited by your own money reserve, plus the government substitutes if provided. This is very different from country to country, maybe you don’t have any or maybe the government pays you up to 80% or your real earnings but anyways it will not last forever. You have just three options. The first is finding a new job and forgetting about events (I guess in a different segment due to everyone in the event industry is in a bad situation), the second is to work maximum as possible in events, plus government aid and spending less to survive it or third wait until pandemic ends (possible just when you have big savings). The question is where all these people as actors, dancers, event managers, technicians, caterings, hotel staff, aviation staff can work meanwhile? Even if we would completely change the segment and there are not enough job positions for everyone.

Since the pandemic has started in March, we had fewer shows than you can count on one hand, so it´s 99% less than the same period the previous year. Fortunately, our company has different segments that help us at least survive, but the majority of Tron groups are dancing groups without any segment diversification. Also, it’s almost impossible to sell LED suits, due nobody buys it nowadays. They are expensive for people and you just can´t plan when you will be able to use them again. Meanwhile, people just spend money on necessities like food and accommodation.  What we can do in our company is preparing the digital suits that we have planned for two years, but because we had plenty of work, we didn’t have time to manage it (there is plenty of R&D). Also, we are preparing a new type of girl’s suit that we think will be a huge success, when everything comes back.

The conclusion is that there will be much fewer LED groups after the pandemic than before, which is on one side good because only the strongest survive. Before the pandemic, the whole segment was growing very fast. Many LED groups just joined the ranks and we have created a new side segment – LED dance. I think, when everything comes back to normal and the whole COVID passes, companies will invest again in this type of promotion but nobody knows, when this will happen.

If you read this and you have been hit hard like we were, I wish you all the best to survive this situation and come back even stronger than before.
